MTV's Quick Guide to NM Soundtrack Artists

MTV shares a bit of background about the lesser-known artists featured on the New Moon soundtrack:

Band of Skulls ("Friends"): This White Stripes-by-way-of-Radiohead English trio formed in 2008 and released the blues-rocking Baby Darling Doll Face Honey in March. They played at this summer's Lollapalooza festival and feature the alternating vocals of bassist Emma Richardson and guitarist Russell Mardsen.

Lykke Li ("Possibility"): Another veteran of Lollapalooza 2009, the Swedish answer to Lady Gaga has gained a legion of fans (among them MTV's own Kurt Loder) for the intensely rhythmic and hypnotic dance music on her debut, Youth Novels.

Anya Marina ("Satellite Heart"): The San Diego-based singer/songwriter, sometime actress ("100 Girls") and radio DJ released her second album of playfully sexy pop tunes, Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II in January. Her songs have been featured "The Real World," "Gossip Girl," "Grey's Anatomy" and "How I Met Your Mother."

Bon Iver & St. Vincent ("Rosyln"): He's sensitive folkie Justin Vernon, whose For Emma, Forever Ago was recorded under the name Bon Iver in a remote cabin in Wisconsin in 2007 and became a blog sensation in 2008. She's Annie Clark, a member of the Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens' touring band who performs as the St. Vincent. Her second album, Actor, was released in May and featured orchestrated pop songs she said were potential fodder for film scores.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club ("Done All Wrong"): This L.A.-based psychedelic garage rock act — named after Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in 1953's "The Wild One" — have been thrashing around since 1998 and have released five albums of twisty, heady rock.

Hurricane Bells ("Monsters"): A side project from Longwave singer/guitarist Steve Schiltz, this unsigned band will release its debut next year. The mellow, country-tinged songs on the Bells' MySpace page promise some seriously introspective, rainy-day pop gems.

Sea Wolf ("The Violet Hour"): The now-main project from former Irving member Alex Church, this California act got its start when Church's tunes didn't fit into Irving's more 1960s inspired psychedelic pop sound. As a result, Church broke off and pursued an Americana-inspired orchestral country-pop sound on albums such as this year's White Water, White Bloom.

Grizzly Bear ("Slow Life"): The beloved Brooklyn indie-rock band known for mixing folk with electronic instruments released one of this year's most acclaimed albums in May, Veckatimest. Their mix of acoustic guitars, chamber pop, electronic bloops and gorgeous melodies have earned them major blog props.

Editors ("No Sound But the Wind"): England's Editors emerged out of the dark rock sound of bands like Interpol and their inspiration, Joy Division, earning a string of overseas hits with alluring tunes like "Bullets" and "Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors."

Alexandre Desplat ("New Moon (The Meadow)"): The French composer has scored more than 100 films and TV shows since 1985. He's best known for his Golden Globe-nominated score to "Girl with a Pearl Earring," as well as contemplative soundtracks to "Hostage," "Syriana," "The Painted Veil" and "The Queen," which earned his first Oscar nomination.

Coincidence? New Moon to Premiere during a new moon & Eclipse during an eclipse!

The Twilight Examiner (aka Amanda Bell) has an interesting article in regards to the New Moon premiere date and the Eclipse release date -

On November 16th, the stars of The Twilight Saga: New Moon will line up in Los Angeles for the official premiere of the film.

The heavens, it seems, will also be lining up on that date as well. One Twitterer made an interesting connection between the date of New Moon’s offiical premiere and the lunar calendar.

November 16th will also be the date of a legitimate new moon according to the lunar phase calendar.

Clever? Methinks so.

Moving right along, it seems that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse could be subject to a similar coincidence. The Twitterer’s research proves correct in that on June 26th (four days before the release of Eclipse), a partial lunar eclipse will occur (with the next eclipse, a total eclipse, not due until December 21, 2010). If, like with New Moon’s premiere, Eclipse’s premiere takes place four days before the film’s release, Eclipse will premiere during an eclipse, and New Moon will have premiered during a new moon.

Ahhh .. I tend to agree – clever marketing indeed!

How Fame hasn't changed Rob & Kris

People.com have a great interview with Rachelle Lefevre who played Victoria in Twilight and New Moon before being replaced in Eclipse by Bryce Dallas Howard over conflicting schedules.  She talks how fame hasn't change who Rob and Kris really are.  Its a great article, read below =)

They became overnight superstars after the success of the first Twilight movie, but Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson haven't let it go to their heads.

"When you go from being a relative unknown to being a success overnight, you definitely grow in leaps and bounds," says Rachelle LeFevre, who plays evil vampire Victoria in Twilight and the upcoming sequel New Moon. "The thing that was most striking for me was the way in which they didn't change."

"If you can weather the fire and come out on the other side and you're still recognizable to everybody who knew you before, I think that's indicative of a larger grace," the French-Canadian actress, 30, said at the Entertainment Weekly and Women In Film pre-Emmy party in L.A. on Sept. 15.

LeFevre herself has weathered the fire after being replaced in the saga's third film, Eclipse, by actress Bryce Dallas Howard.

"I was devastated and I was shocked," she says. "But the truth is I am grateful for the Twilight franchise. I'm grateful for the doors that it opened to me. I love my cast. And I think New Moon is going to be great."

HQ New Moon Jane Picture

Last week I posted the HQ pictures of the volturi, as well as a new Bella, Alice and Edward shots.  But Jane (Dakota Fanning) was missing.  Well here she is! =)

NM Soundtrack deets will release tomorrow!

According to the NY Times, the New Moon soundtrack track list will be announced to the public on Friday, September 18th. Ms. Patsavas from Chop Shop Records had this to say of the SOuntrack that is being released on October 20th.
"Ms. Patsavas, known for her work on television shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Gossip Girl,” said she was confident that the “New Moon” soundtrack would include Thom Yorke, Bon Iver and Band of Skulls. Death Cab for Cutie’s “Meet Me on the Equinox,” the first single, had its premiere on MTV.com on Sunday, as part of a “Twilight” promotional blitz surrounding MTV’s Video Music Awards. There has been extensive speculation in the music industry all summer about who else would be included. Representatives of Grizzly Bear and the Killers said those groups would be on the soundtrack, but Ms. Patsavas declined to comment, saying that the track list would be completed and announced on Friday."

Eclipse Set Pics:NEWBORNS!

Allie and Malicious Mandy has another great report at another Vancouver Eclipse set! This time they 'have the chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse..the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks.' The girls took wonderful pictures and give us details of the set!

Allie reported:

I had a chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse… the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks. It’s a picturesque scene, with mountains and water framing the background of the shot, and a sparse unoccupied beach for the newborns to arrive on… then they disappear into the forest. The vampire newborns looked absolutely chilling, and their rugged military-like outfits along with steely, determined glares just added to the mood. Filmed early in the morning, this scene was designed to look as if it had been shot at night, possibly just after dusk or just before dawn. Riley (Xavier Samuel) and Bree (Jodelle Ferland) were on set as well as a number of newborn vampires we have NEVER seen before.
I’m always amazed at what a huge production it is to film just a few seconds for these movies. Second Unit Director EJ Foerster was on set, calm but directive… doing dozens of different takes for only a couple scenes. An amazing number of people involved plus tons of equipment and hours of filming from so many different angles just to get a 5 second shot… wow. Check out all the equipment on the shore, including the scuba diving gear and the dinghys. You can also see some of the shorter fake trees they used in the foreground on the beach.
And Malicious Mandy also reported:

Great Shot of one of the vampires walking back into the water to prepare to shoot them exiting water (again) It was amazing to see how many time they shot the same thing over and over and over, then re-set the camera angles and lights to re-shoot the same thing over and over again and again. Tedious and less glamourous than people think that's for sure.
Talk about creepy.  These newborns look fantastic and scary!

Royce not originally in Eclipse script?!

E!Online has an interview with Jack Huston who plays Royce (Rosalies human fiance) in Eclipse.  There's a chance we may never have met Royce and the small but meaty part may not have even existed were it not for David Slade taking a meeting with Huston.

"I went in to the director and he very sweetly wrote this part up for me," the actor admits. "It was kind of a nice compliment from him."

Now, as for those costars of his…Sadly, Huston has only spent one day on the set thus far, and that was with Reed, much to his relief.

"She's actually a real sweetie and the very first day she made me feel very welcome," he says. "We were away from the madness which is, I think, Robert and Kristen. I think they have hundreds of incessant fans following them, which, fair enough. We were quite lucky. We were in the park, beautiful, and it was fun."

Meet Me On The Equinox Song Lyrics

Meet me on the equinox

Meet me halfway

When the sun is perched on its highest peak

In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you

Let me take your hand

And as we walk in the dimming light

Oh darling understand that everything ends

Meet me on your best behavior

Or meet me at your worst

For there will be no stone unturned

Or bubble left to burst

Let me lay beside you darling

Let me be your man

And let our bodies intertwine

But always understand that everything ends
A window

An open tomb

The sun crawls across your bedroom

A halo

A waning moon

Your last breath moving through you as everything ends
Meet me on the equinox

Meet me halfway

When the sun is perched on its highest peak

In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you

Let me take your hand

And as we walk in the dimming light

Oh darling understand that everything ends

Taylor Talks Eclipse:Darker Movie

In this VMA interview with MTV, Taylor jokes around about how fans will cry when they see him as a werewolf, talks about how RPattz doesn't need any workout tips, and also gave us some insight as to what Eclipse may be like:

Slade is the third director to helm a "Twilight" flick, and Lautner admits that he's got a whole new dark take on the saga. "It's been good. He's a lot different, but I think he's going to add a cool taste to the movie," he explained. "It might be a little darker."

And Lautner thinks Slade will take the action in this flick, which involves a lot of battling, to the next step. "I feel like the action level is stepping up each and every film. 'New Moon' definitely has a lot more [action] than 'Twilight,' and I feel like Eclipse is bumping it up another level," the actor said.
