Breaking Dawn Casting of Irina & Renesmee

Former Lost star, as well as the daughter from the movie Taken, Maggie Grace will star in Twilight’s upcoming Breaking Dawn movies.

Deadline reports the 27-year-old actress will play Irina, a member of the Denali coven who blames the Cullens for the death of her lover.

EW is also repoting that Mackenzie Foy, 9, has also been cast in as the role of Renesmee, Edward and Bella’s vampire/human love child.

'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Sets November 2012 Release Date!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 will be released into theaters on November 16, 2012, a full year after Part 1, according to Variety!

It was announced back in June that the film will be split into two parts, which will be shot simultaneously starting this fall in Vancouver, Canada and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) will direct both films with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner reprising their roles in the hit series!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be released as two separate films, Summit Entertainment confirms via their official twitter page!

The first of the two slated will be released in theatres on November 18, 2011! Helming both flicks will be Dreamgirls director Bill Condon.  This makes me so happy!

Summit Confirms: “Breaking Dawn” Director is Bill Condon

As reported earlier, Summit Entertainment has found its next “Twilight” filmmaker and now formally locked up Oscar-winner Bill Condon to direct “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.” While none of the stars have signed deals yet, the entire cast including Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are expected to return. This is possibly one reason the studio has not confirmed whether, as rumored, there will be one or two “Breaking Dawn” films.

“I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book – and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience,” said Bill Condon.

The fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s popular series chronicles Bella’s most advanced initiation into the vampire world to date, but is also seen by many as the most difficult to adapt of all the best-selling novels. Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted the first two novels, would continue in that role for “Dawn.” Stephenie Meyer has already met with Condon to discuss the project. She noted in the release, “I’m so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he’s going to be a great fit, and I’m excited to see what he does with the material.”

Erik Feig, President of Production and Acquisitions, for Summit Entertainment added, “Bringing Stephenie Meyer’s BREAKING DAWN to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity.”

Condon is best known for directing and adapting the box office and critical hit “Dreamgirls” which was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won two including Best Supporting Actress for star Jennifer Hudson. The film also won the Golden Globe for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy and grossed $103 million at the U.S. box office. The filmmaker won his own Oscar in 1998 for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Gods and Monsters.” He was subsequently nominated again in the same category for “Chicago.” Condon also received a prestigious Director’s Guild of America Best Director nod for “Dreamgirls.” More impressive, besides Hudson’s breakthrough, he’s shepherded Oscar nominations for Ian McKellen (“Gods and Monsters”), Lynn Redgrave (“Gods and Monsters”) and Laura Linney (“Kinsey”). And for those concerned about Condon’s genre credentials, he’s more than happy to discuss directing 1995’s “Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh” to anyone who will ask. Most recently, Condon teamed up with producer Larry Mark to produce the 81st Academy Awards with host Hugh Jackman. That show received strong critical notices and was nominated for more Emmy Awards than any Oscar broadcast in history.

Upcoming projects for Condon include the potential HBO series “Tilda” starring Diane Keaton and inspired by notorious online entertainment blogger Nikki Finke. Condon will shoot the pilot for “Tilda” before “Breaking Dawn” begins prep early this summer. The fate of the long in the works “Richard Pryor” biopic and the recently announced drama “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” is still unclear.

Catherine Hardwicke directed the first “Twilight” which was a surprise blockbuster grossing $384 million worldwide. The follow up, last fall’s “New Moon” was shepherded by fan favorite Chris Weitz and made an eye-popping $707 million worldwide. The third chapter, “Eclipse,” will hit theaters on June 30 under David Slade’s direction.

Production is expected to begin early this fall.

Bill Condon Frontrunner to Direct “Breaking Dawn”

The current frontrunner to direct “Breaking Dawn” is Bill Condon, Gossip Cop can confirm.

Summit Entertainment has yet to sign Condon to the project, but the studio and director are engaged in a negotiation process that has moved the director to the front of the pack, a source close to the situation tells Gossip Cop, corroborating an earlier Deadline.com report.

Condon previously directed films including Kinsey and Dreamgirls.

Almost as long as the book itself, the saga of who would adapt it for the screen has gone through many twists, including a false rumor Gossip Cop busted claiming Gus Van Sant had already “signed” to do the project, and buzz last week that Michael Mann was a major candidate.

More Breaking Dawn Director News!

Now MTV is reporting that Another 'Breaking Dawn' Director To Consider is M. Night Shyamalan - the one who wrote and directed the movie "The Last Airbender" with Jackson Rathbone 'aka Jasper'.

Shyamalan is known for frequently screwing with viewers' heads in hits like "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable"; "Airbender" is a first for him, a big-budget, studio adaptation.

This isn't an official possibility on the table for Summit -- as far as we know -- but a noteworthy filmmaker professed his love for Stephenie Meyer's vampire series in a chat on the Kid's Choice Awards red carpet over the weekend: M. Night Shyamalan.

Melissa Rosenburg on Scripts & Breaking Dawn

This past Friday night as we all know, tons of different outlets held their own personal New Moon midnight DVD parties, and Twilight Saga screen writer Melissa Rosenburg was present at the New Moon party at Fred Meyer in Seattle, where she spoke about the topic on everyone’s lips: Breaking Dawn.

How do you condense an 800-page book into a two hour movie?

MR: “Very carefully. You start with, and you end with, what is the emotional journey for these characters. That is the most important thing to capture, that is the only thing to capture. Everything else is up for grabs, but you must take these characters on the same emotional journey that they took in the book, and hence take the audience on the same emotional journey that they took in the book and that’s the goal, you hope that you achieve that. some people would say I did, some people would say I don’t.”

Do you get any feedback from the fans when you, for example.. cut certain scenes?

MR: “I have a fan site, and the fans will weigh in and say wow! you’ve cut too many things out.. or say I’ve done a fantastic job. They are very kind on my site, there are other sites I know that I don’t read, because I can’t handle that kind of intensity. You can’t make all the fans happy, you try to make as many as possible happy.”

How is that going to be a challenge for the last one? (‘Breaking Dawn’) because as you know, that’s the big one.

MR: “It’s the big one, it’s gonna be a big challenge, and I guarantee you that not all of the fans will be happy, and I guarantee you some of them will be.

You have to give up the ideal of making everybody happy, it’s just not gonna happen, but you hope you make the majority happy. Again, for that last book it is about taking that specific character Bella on her journey. It’s a big journey, it’s a massive change for her, and you hope to realize that.”

What did director Chris Weitz bring to ‘New Moon’ that you think was valuable to the series?

MR: “He was so good. He opened up the franchise. He opened it into this sweeping epic story. Twilight was a very intimate personal movie. it was a small movie, it had almost an independent feel to it. Chris made it into a beautiful spectacle, he really expanded it, expanded the world of it.”

Going back to ’Breaking Dawn’, how far along are you in the planning, with production coming up pretty soon?

MR: “It’s coming up very soon, it’s all deep into the discussions and working on the story, and figuring out what it’s gonna be… we’re deep in the middle of it.”

Any word on when it will “officially” be green-lit?

MR: “I don’t know, but obviously soon.. vampires aren’t supposed to age, so you know.”

Can you talk about the fan craze surrounding the main characters Bella and Edward, and how it’s carried over to real life for these actors? How do they handle it?

MR: “I don’t know how they handle it frankly, it’s a lot to have coming at you, I can’t even begin to imagine. I have a little bit coming at me and it’s almost too much. Can’t even fathom what it is like, I hope they get to have a semblance of a real life.”

Finally, can you give me one word to describe ’Twilight’ fans?

MR: “Passionate.. for sure.”

KStew confirms 3 directors for Breaking Dawn!

Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon are all being considered for Breaking Dawn! =) All 3 are Academy Award Winning Directors!

Entertainment Weekly have confirmed with van Sant’s people that he had been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s teams were yet to comment. Whoever does sign on (and I’d imagine it may well be somebody else entirely) will probably be expected to commit to a very long production schedule, effectively making two films at once. Maybe Summit are planning different directors for each half of the Breaking Dawn project, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Shame. Could be interesting!

Anna Kendrick 2010 Oscar Nominee Luncheon

Anna Kendrick (aka Jessica Stanley) attended the 2010 Oscar Nominee Luncheon on Monday, February 15 in Beverly Hills, California. Anna is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Up in the Air. The Oscars will telecast on Sunday, March 7th.

“They are so going to have to pay me through the nose for ‘Breaking Dawn’ if if they think I’m going to sit around a lunchroom table for hours on end.”

YEP! I’m sure they will have to pay her through the nose now that she is an Oscar nominated actress!! LOL!

Breaking Dawn News-Filming Deets

LaineyGossip gives us some non-romance related updates for us Twi-Hards, this has to do with shooting location in response to the daily flurry of emails I receive for production information related to the 4th and possibly 5th movie(s).

You’ll recall I was the first to report that due to provincial tax credit drama and competing incentives, Portland became a more viable location. Despite reports elsewhere, as of this weekend, no final decision has been made. Having said that, Vancouver remains Summit’s first choice even though the tax credit situation has yet to be sorted.

My sources tell me exclusively Summit representatives met with the BC government just before Christmas to see if a favourable arrangement could be worked out. That meeting concluded with NO commitments from government officials who explained that they were not prepared to look at any new tax structure until after the Olympics. Summit was hoping to make a decision sooner.

Further, many crew members who worked on Twilight New Moon and Eclipse are now working on the new Fox show Human Target (shot in Vancouver) which enjoyed a solid debut the other night. As of two days ago, those crew members have not been informed of any movement to go back to Twilight. Yet.

There’s been some buzz among certain local special effects firms that a contract is coming, anticipating a June start date. The timing is encouraging for those lobbying for a Twilight return. This would allow for 3 months of prep before principle photography in September. So it looks promising... but there are still many variables at play. Will keep you posted.

Breaking Dawn News & Its so G_O_O_D!

The LA Times got Wyck Godfrey (Twilight saga movie producer) to give us some Breaking Dawn updates. While most items are "hopeful" he did confirm some important facts.
1. Kristen, Robert, & Taylor have all signed on to do Breaking Dawn.

Now we already knew from interviews that Robert had said he had already signed. But now we have confirmation the the trinity will all be in the movie.

2. Melissa Rosenburg has signed on to do the Breaking Dawn script and currently "It's a work in process," Godfrey said.

3. They are hoping to film in Vancouver in the fall.

Confirmation of Vancouver! Couve girls go wild and I get my passport ready. Fall filming is the hopeful & doable. First they must find a director, then the director has to get his "vision" approved by the studio, then the Melissa & the director have to mesh together the script & his/her views and get that approved....yada yada yada. So fall is hopeful and can be done.

4. Chris Weitz is most likely not returning but they didn't give us a big fat no.

Breaking Dawn Official Production/Casting Info

Via Acting Auditions Breaking Dawn is slated for filming to begin September of 2010-the film will go back to its roots and be filmed in Portland, Oregon.  BD's director has not been officially announced yet but however, sources say Gus Van Sant has signed on.  He directed the Emmy-Award winning movie 'Milk" & 'Psycho'.
