Reshoots: Eclipse Movie Not Ready?

Eclipse opens in June. But the film isn’t ready yet.

 

Multiple sources have confirmed to me that some key scenes need to be reshot including footage between “Bella” and “Edward” in the meadow and a few fight sequences. They’ve been waiting for weeks to confirm dates but have had to work around Robert Pattinson’s schedule. Originally they needed 7 days but now, due to his other commitments, it’s been proposed that they work for 3 days with the crew putting in 18 hours each day. This should happen in Vancouver in the new few weeks.

What’s more interesting is WHO would actually direct the reshoot. David Slade is the director for Eclipse. But I’m told that apparently David Slade’s relationship with Summit has been... not great. Creative differences. At one point things had supposedly deteriorated to the point that they were actually considering hiring someone else to reshoot in Vancouver.

Some of the names tossed around? Chris Weitz and Catherine Hardwicke. Hardwicke is in Vancouver working on another new film to go in the summer. They’re looking at delaying that project and Hardwicke has been spotted undercover checking out studio and location space for the Eclipse reshoot.

Having said that, Slade and Summit are now communicating on better terms. And there is still a good possibility he could come back to Vancouver to complete his film. As of Monday, no final decision about a director had been made. Will keep you posted.

Well that's going to make life interesting. People reshoots are not that unusual and were done with Twilight 2 months out. Also FYI depending on what needs reshooting a second unit director doing it isn't unheard of, particularly if it isn't dialogue heavy.

David Slade Tweets about Eclipse Edit Cut!

David Slade tweeted this on Wednesday, January 27 about the the studio’s first screening of Eclipse in phase 1.

Twilight Examiner says this about David Slade’s latest tweet.

After months and months of reading Slade’s countless updates about the post-production process (which seems, by the way, incredibly taxing and tedious), it seems that things are finally coming to a head and the editing process is nearing completion.

A director’s cut of a film, of course, is not the final cut (and it probably won’t even be made available to the public). The final cut is usually reserved for someone in the studio, who can make a few adjustments here and there to make the film more presentable in the box office. Those changes, for the most part, are not usually drastic. (Obviously, with varying studio interests and agendas, that statement is a heavily case-by-case matter. Who’s to say how many changes will be necessary for Eclipse.)

For the meantime, though, this news means that things are progressing in the completion arena. While that doesn’t necessarily give us any indication of when we should expect the first trailer for the film (though prior speculations may still be applicable), it does mean that the film is that much closer to being finished and ready for the theaters!

I’m patient. I can wait for the trailer. Can we have a new photo from Eclipse though?

Royce not originally in Eclipse script?!

E!Online has an interview with Jack Huston who plays Royce (Rosalies human fiance) in Eclipse.  There's a chance we may never have met Royce and the small but meaty part may not have even existed were it not for David Slade taking a meeting with Huston.

"I went in to the director and he very sweetly wrote this part up for me," the actor admits. "It was kind of a nice compliment from him."

Now, as for those costars of his…Sadly, Huston has only spent one day on the set thus far, and that was with Reed, much to his relief.

"She's actually a real sweetie and the very first day she made me feel very welcome," he says. "We were away from the madness which is, I think, Robert and Kristen. I think they have hundreds of incessant fans following them, which, fair enough. We were quite lucky. We were in the park, beautiful, and it was fun."

From the set photos we saw on Friday & hearing that Dakota has finished her part as Jane, we can pretty much tell that the core to the climax of the story has been shot.

Eclipse Auditions! Riley, Leah, Seth & Wolf Pack

There are some new auditions for New Moon sequel Eclipse coming up soon–including the roles of Riley, Seth Clearwater and Leah Clearwater. Also up for grabs is various members of the La Push wolf pack–

Leah Clearwater: Female, 19 years of age. Seth’s big sister, and the only female member of La Push wolf pack: “She is tall and slender with beautiful skin and short cropped black hair. She would be considered gorgeous if not for the perpetual scowl she carries due to a broken heart and her anger issues.”

Seth Clearwater: Male, 15-16 years of age is a “tall, gangly-limbed boy with a huge, happy grin, Seth idolizes Jacob.” Black hair, lean muscle type, think swimmer type body.

Riley: Male 19-21. Good looking, blond, clean-cut, muscular college guy who falls victim to Victoria. He’s in his early to mid 20s and Riley was a newborn that was created by Victoria to act as the leader of her recently formed newborn army. He accompanies Victoria in her attempt to murder Bella Swan.

There will also be additional members of the La Push wolf pack and Quileute tribe cast in Eclipse. Like New Moon, they are looking for Native American or First Nations actors ONLY to fill these roles - no actors who “look like they could be” Native American or First Nations people.

David Slade Confirmed by Summit to direct Eclipse!

Twilight Lexicon has the official confirmation posted about David Slade directing ‘Eclipse’:

Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production.

Meyer stated, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition.”

Feig said, “Stephenie Meyer’s ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice.
